DeMolay International was founded in 1919 by Frank S. Land to give a young, fatherless, friend an opportunity to socialize, have male role models in his life, and to create bonds between young men who felt alone as well.
Jacque DeMolay was the last Grandmaster of The Knights Templar who was overthrown by King Henry III of France in an attempt to take the Templar’s power and land. After being subjected to numerous torture techniques in pursuit of the names of unknown members and the locations of the order’s wealth by King Henry III, Jacque refused to betray his brothers and was burned at the stake for his defiance.
The Organization of DeMolay today tries to create the bonds forged between Jacque and his Templars, between young men that have no outlet. DeMolay does its best in teaching its members confidence and leadership skills.
While it is considered a religious organization based on the Christian faith, DeMolay is open to people of any religion, or lack thereof. DeMolay keeps an open mind, accepting anyone willing into its ranks.
