The Philosophy Club, founded by senior Marco Ayala, is a new club that provides students with an open minded place to discuss ideas.
Ayala wants to give students a place to “open up their ideas about certain things, [and share] any idea that might be controversial in the world, like the war with Afghanistan.”
Ayala believes that many students are misinformed about certain things because of the misleading television shows that misinterpret all kinds of information. He thinks people should be able to have the opportunity to speak in a sense where they know what is really going around.
“Sometimes it’ll be in a debate form; sometimes it’ll just be, come speak your mind about certain things,” Ayala said.
The club will consist of about four officers, and Ayala will act as the president directing their meetings and conversations. There will not be any fee requested to join and no requirements. Ayala just wants students to be able to come speak their minds. The club meets every Thursday from about 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in room 114. Ayala encourages all students to come check out the club, without the pressure of becoming a member. Making this new club is important to Ayala.
“It’s my senior year so I’ll be leaving after this year,” Ayala said. “I was hoping this club would stay and then next year I could come back and visit and speak on certain things. I would really like this club to continue after I leave at North Garland.”
