Because the construction in the science rooms was done after winter break, biology teacher Joneem Lacra, chemistry teacher Ashley Wong and their students were allowed to move into their new rooms on January 22. Now with their equipped rooms, both teachers and their students are able to do their science experiments without having interruptions due to lack of resources and space.
“My room is bigger compared with my old room, and it creates a conducive and nurturing environment to my students,” Lacra said.
Having the new room equipped with work stations that have sinks, water, natural gas and electrical outlets give students the ability to work labs.
“The set-up is a little different [compared to the old room], but length wise is still the same,” Wong said.
Although Lacra’s room is missing some items that other science classes down the hall have, such as the Smart Board, she and her students are pleased with their brand new classroom. Space is one of the main reasons that make the new science rooms so great for the students as well as the teachers.
“I did not like our old room,” senior Amina Youssef said. “It was too crowded; there were too many people and not enough room.”
According to Wong, the moving part was hard since she had to pack up her stuff then unpack it, creating a hassle since she had to get the room ready by the next day. With just Lacra and Wong in the new rooms, they are working to get their rooms ready and to make it workable.
“I like how it’s bigger,” junior Janice Chacko said. “It was exciting to know that we got new rooms for science and it makes more use of the science hall.”
