Raider Echo: Why did you decide to retire?
It’s just the right time. [I’ve been at NG for] 27 years.
RE: How has your time been here at NG?
It’s been very rewarding. I’ve enjoyed a lot of it, and I’ve had a lot of really good kids.
RE: What are you doing after you retire?
[I’m going to] work on my hobbies [and] on my collections.
-Career teacher Larry Worrell
RE: What was your favorite part of teaching?
Just working with kids, seeing them get better and seeing them have success. It’s fun.
RE: Why did you decide to retire?
Retiring really wasn’t something I was thinking about doing. It just kind of happened. Toward the end of the year, I said, well, maybe it’s a good time to go.
-Coach Larry Kuenzi
RE: What are you going to miss most about NG?
I’m really going to miss NG, the teachers and the students.
RE: Why did you decide to retire?
I felt like it was time. I need to spend more time with my family, and I’m ready to go on to new adventures.
-Social studies teacher Susan Six
RE: Why did you decide to retire?
I’m old enough to retire, but young enough to go do something else fun.
RE: What will you remember most about your career?
My rocky road fudge lab is my best day of teaching.
RE: What do you hope to leave behind?
I hope [my students] learned something from me that was important to their lives.
-Science teacher Penny Richey
RE: What will you miss about NG?
Probably my MST [and] the kids. I’ve worked really hard at building the [MST] program. It makes me feel good when I have a kid that doesn’t know what they want to do come here and find a passion. I think it’s maybe time for somebody young to bring their new ideas to MST. That’s why I’m happy that I get to come back part time in the fall [to] train the new person.
-MST coordinator Sherry Hansford
RE: Why did you decide to retire?
I decided to retire now, because my parents are elderly and need my help as soon as possible.
RE: How has your time been at NG?
My time at NG has been extremely rewarding. The wonderful teachers in the science department have built a world-class science program over the past few years. I will miss them the most.
-Science Facilitator Karen MacVey
