On April 18, 1995 Donna Bolden had a war with death. The war was me. My date of birth was originally scheduled three months after. Donna Bolden was struggling with high blood pressure. Due to a blood pressure of 220/120, which is stroke level, my birth was sped up. When I was born, I only weighed 1pound 12 ounces. After two months in the neonatal intensive care unit, I was finally released to go home. I survived the crisis, evaded any severe health problems and bypassed any lifelong disabilities. I am what many refer to as a “miracle.”
Several thousand babies are born prematurely every year. Important development is crucial during the birthing cycle, especially in the final weeks. Many health problems occur if the baby is not properly developed in an ample amount of time. March of Dimes is an organization to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality, and Garland ISD is the second highest contributor in the metroplex. To help the cause all you have to do is donate to the March of Dimes foundation. You could also participate in the March for Babies, which is a walk to raise money the babies’ causes. I am a miracle baby, and the efforts of the March of Dimes work to make more miracles like me.
