“I almost got kidnapped 3 times at a butcher shop in the Philippines. There was guys in a van trying to sell me meat and I didn’t speak Tagalog, which is the language of the Philippines. [It was recommended] to not speak at all. They tried to coax me into the van and I didn’t say anything but they could tell that I was of mixed [ethnicity]. I started running [away] at that point,” Khrystal Mendonca, 11.
